Cocoa Raspberry & Banana Smoothie

Cocoa Raspberry & Banana Smoothie

One of my favourite combinations (ok I think I say that with all my smoothies, don’t I? ;-) )…. I just felt like a treat with my smoothie this morning…et voila!!  A treat was born!!

Ingredients:
Yields 1.5 litres

  • 3 cups water
  • 2 banana
  • 2 cups raspberries
  • 2 Tbsp raw cocoa powder (although not raw I love Cuisine Camino Organic Cocoa Powder, and it’s prepared locally in Ottawa!!)
  • 4 Medjool dates, pitted
  • 2 large handfuls spinach

Add all ingredients to the blender.  Blend on low speed and gradually increase speed.  Blend on high until smooth and frothy.  To learn more about how I create smoothies visit My Smoothie Approach.

Sounds heavenly! How many smoothies a day are you having? Any solid food as well?

    • Hi Jaquelyn,

I normally drink smoothies in the morning. I usually have about 1.5 or 2 litres – sometimes more. I do also eat solid foods for lunch and dinner. I have however done a 3 or 4 Green Smoothy Cleanse before, when I do that I only drink smoothies and will often have 6+ litres in one day – I drink as much as I need to not be hungry. I hope that helps? Do you also drink a lot of smoothies? Catherine xox

Yes, we love smoothies. My son is a kale monster. Lol. He takes one to school in his lunch each day.
Above my vitamix is a cupboard filled with our little tweaks…. Goji berries, spirilia, maca, bee pollen, a host of super goods, etc.
We try to keep everything as organic as possible as well.
        Nice job with the blog!

        All the best,
        Jaquelyn

        • Oh wow, you sounds like a smoothie queen :-) and your soon too. That’s fantastic!! I do love your little tweaks list as well :-) so nice to meet like minded people! And thanks for your kind words about my blog. Cheers & Happy New Year!! Catherine xox

  3. I didn’t have/know where to get raw cocoa powder, so I used unsweetened baking powder. Is there a taste difference between the two? Because it tastes a little bitter. I also didn’t have dates, so I used dried apricots. But it tastes ok, other than the bitterness, thanks!

    • Hi there… yes, apricots are a great substitute for dates, you might need a couple of extra, but you can start with a few and have a taste to decide if you want to add more. As for baking powder, I won’t recommend it for any of the smoothies. For this smoothy it would be good even without the cocoa, so I would recommend skipping it. Although you could also add either a handful of almonds or a tablespoon of raw almond butter.. that would also be yummy!! I hope that helps. Catherine xox
