There are several types of antioxidants and they are best sourced from fresh fruits and vegetables (vs. supplements) and they are found in many foods such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, pears, citrus fruits, green teas, green collards, kale, tomatoes, and the list goes on!
Antioxidants fight the oxidation process, a chemical reaction that can cause damage to many cells in the body. For those of us that eat a high raw plant-based diet, chances are you are getting plenty of antioxidants, but you want to continue to include high variety of fruits and vegetables to ensure you achieve balanced nutrition requirements.
All that to say, this Blueberry Banana Smoothie is a great source of antioxidants, it is also very high in vitamins A & C, high in B6, high in manganese, magnesium and potassium. The hempseed is also a great source of protein as you can see with the 9.9g protein per serving!
- 3 cups water
- 2 cups blueberries
- 2 bananas
- 1 large lemon, peel removed and cut in half
- 3 tbsp hempseed
- 4 big handfuls mixed greens
Makes 1.5L (2 servings of .75L or 3cups each)
Add all ingredients to the blender. Blend on low speed and gradually increase speed. Blend on high for a minute or two until smooth and frothy.
